This video explains how to use dynamic pick-list fields, and how to define their values dependent on your configuration items. This is a useful feature if you want to enforce processes, as it doesn’t allow users to enter wrong values in certain fields. The video covers creating configuration items, setting up the hierarchy, creating fields in the target work item, then setting up the dependencies.
In this example, we create fields for Territory, Country, and Office. In case the territory “EMEA” (Europe, Middle East and Africa) is chosen, countries such as for instance the US will not be shown – your choices will be limited to countries in the EMEA region. After a country is chosen, the pick-list is once again dependent on this choice: in case you chose “Germany” as the country, offices in Vienna, London etc. will not be shown. Only the specified contents of the “Offices” item under “Germany” (Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart in this example) will be shown and may be selected.
Watch this video to learn how to:
- Create configuration items & define their hierarchy
- Create list views for each type of item
- Create choice fields referring to your configuration item
- Set up the dependencies
