YASA was started as a spinoff company from the University of Oxford to commercialize the e-motor technology that founder Tim Woolmer had been working on. Started in 2009, the company achieved considerable success over the next decade. In 2019, Ferrari selected a YASA e-motor to use in its SF90 Stradale, their first hybrid production series supercar.
The automotive-specific use case of YASA involves conformance with ASPICE and ISO 26262 regulatory requirements in an Agile environment. To comply with regulatory standards, YASA needed to replace its legacy toolchain (consisting of MS Excel and a patchwork of other tools) with a unified Application Lifecycle Management platform.
